That New, New

After almost 10 years, I started a new job. For those of you who don’t know, I work in Tech Recruitment at lululemon. I went from an agency where I knew (almost) everything and could do my job without thinking to joining my dream organization where there’s a lot to learn.

It was terrifying, slightly overwhelming and challenging. Two months later, I like to think I’ve done pretty well. Here’s what I learned along the way:

  • Get comfortable being the new kid on the block

  • Give yourself time and space to learn

  • Make a list of all the things you need to know to feel at ease and then get some answers

  • Ask questions, then ask some more

  • If you don’t have one, find someone on your team to be your buddy

  • Set boundaries for yourself – take a lunch, go for a walk, start and end your day at a reasonable hour. It’s true, there are rarely enough hours in a day and sometimes, it can wait until tomorrow

  • At the end of every day, think back to your wins and successes and write them down. No matter how big or small they may seem, it’ll help you feel accomplished and like you’re progressing
