Your Skincare Questions Answered
I still remember when I thought a full face of makeup at almost all times was the definition of beauty. That started to change a few years ago, but I don’t think I fully embraced beauty without heavy makeup until about a year and a half ago.
As I’ve gotten older, healthy skin is something I’ve chosen to invest in. Of course getting to this place took more than consistent facials and good skincare, but those have definitely played a role in feeling comfortable in the skin I’m in.
I’ve had a quite a few questions about skincare & my routine so thought I’d answer them here. I’ll link my favourite products throughout.
My skin needs help, but I don't know where to start: A great place to begin is with a consultation (PlainJane Skinbar offers these at no charge), You can also do a Reveal which allows you understand what’s happening under the surface and create a tailored program to target that as well. If you’re struggling with acne, the laser facial is a game changer. So often, people overload their skin trying to figure it out, which can cause more issues than help, so keep in simple.
I'm looking for a new skincare routine, what are your must-have products? Here’s a breakdown of my go to morning and evening routing.
AM: Cleanser, Vitamin C, HA Intensifier (optional), Moisturizer (I really this one which has more anti-aging properties. This one is also a great daily moisturizer), Sunscreen (a couple that I like are here & here)
PM: Cleanser, Retinol (I use this 3 days a week), Moisturizer
If you can only choose one product: A good quality, UVB + UBA Sunscreen that you apply religiously year-round is the way to go. Adding in a Vitamin C or antioxidant serum will elevate your sun protection.
What's the best facial for collagen production? Microneedling or laser facials are both good options. Laser is more conservative and can take time, but it’s a good starting point if you’re not used to facials. You’ll get the most out of both of these if you do them in a series.
I can't commit to monthly facials, how frequently should I go to see results: Monthly facials are definitely an investment. I would say going every quarter, as the seasons change is a great option. The products you use between facials are just as important. I have used both ZO & Skinceuticals and they last a long time!
Tips for glowing/healthy skin: Consistency with facials (where possible), good skincare, hydration & sleep. Regular exfoliation is also key to healthy skin cell turnover. I use this polish from ZO once or twice a week.
Let me know if you have any other questions! If you’re interested in trying a facial, I highly recommend PlainJane SKinbar, and they offer 40% off your first facial with them.
